Robby, Thanks for the great post. I was also challenged by this as well and have been programed to think the same: Mission fields are done and located some place far away or as you stated "over there". I think we all are equipped to be on mission if we can simply live relationally. I prefer to be a road side prophet to shout (or whisper) from the side lines but Christ example cannot let me do this.He live His faith not by shouting but by engaging others.
I feel another way we miss it as well is sometimes we look past the church body when there are those in need within the body. It's amazing how many people have no relationships within the body.
Great thought provoking blog now I hope I can simply let God work through me, you and the rest who call on His Son's name.

Thanks for your honestly and transparency.

What you described above is something that hopefully will be experienced as "Come Together" takes shape as well. In fact Matthew 18:20 was one of the reasons I choose that name for the group.

I look forward to working with you further and for what God has in store.

Thanks for taking the time to comment and for sharing the Gene Simmons story. As I mentioned in the blog - I understand the sentiment behind WWJD, but i have personally witnessed this very question lead people to truly believe that they can be like Christ by just "acting out" a certain behavior. This is called behavior modification and is not the same as biblical transformation, which happens divinely through the work of the Holy Spirit.

I agree completely that God has made us all uniquely which naturally leads to different expressions of what following Jesus looks like. However, the Scriptures clearly state (specifically in Romans 8) that "all" people who belong to Jesus are being conformed into his image. This in now way suppresses our uniqueness or giftedness, but does show that all Christians are called to look like Jesus in character - and this only happens through the work of the Spirit.

Great point that you make here -. "The Word of God contains only a very small piece of the life of Jesus and no reasonable person could possibly say that scripture has captured the entirety of Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit or Yahweh." I agree completely. "Jesus' strategy was based solely on a relationship with the Father, one that all Christians are given access too and by it can live a life worthy of God.

Thanks for your thoughts brother.

In my opinion: When we "follow" a person, many times, instead of emulating certain characteristics that we would like to add to our own personna to make us better individuals, we instead attempt to become that person in every way, setting aside our own individuality. I remember trying to actually become Gene Simmons! I joined the Kiss Army, painted my face, tried to talk like him and even make decisions that I thought he would make. This is silly and I was 9 years old, but I remember alienating those around me, losing friends temporarily, and trying to be someone that I was not. God did not intend for us to be Jesus clones nor did He want us all to speak, act, think, and filter our world the same way. He created individual spirits in all of us and gave us different knowledge, skills, gifts and abilities accordingly. WWJD does not mean that we should become or even attempt to become a copy of Jesus, but rather reflect on His processes and make life decisions using similar strategies. The Word of God contains only a very small piece of the life of Jesus and no reasonable person could possibly say that scripture has captured the entirety of Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit or Yahweh. We have been given what we need to live a life worthy of the calling, nothing more, nothing less.

Wow, did this post ever come alive or what?!!? 3 short days after, little baby Sydney Grace is now here with us...and my schedule is so messed up.

But, you know what? I feel like I'm seeing clearly. My daily grind is wrecked, my sleep is little, but my heart overflows with gratefulness and excitement when I look at my baby girl's innocent, beautiful eyes!

Trusting God with every bit of my life means I may not know where I'll be in a few years. It means submitting myself to my husband when I don't feel like it. It means if Bella as an adult is called to minister in the drug-infested slums of New York or L.A., then I am to encourage her in where the Lord is leading her. Sometimes, it seems impossible that I could trust like that. Trusting God is giving up the rights I claim to have on my life - because no longer does my life belong to me... it belongs to someone "wiser, better, more capable," far more loving... my life belongs to my Creator. When I remember my Creator knows me better than I know myself, and He knows what's best way more than I do, I am given the strength to trust Him in another moment. For me, trusting God is a day by day process. I find myself clinging to my rights all to often, but when I "remember" who my Creator is and what that means, I have peace. I think this is the "peace that passes all understanding." It's the peace that comes when it doesn't make any logical sense to trust God. This is hard for me, but I know it's necessary in following Christ and experiencing freedom in Him.
