Micro-Groups

At Open House, we value community.  True, valuable, life-giving connection with people is what fuels ministry and opens the door to life change and growth.  The good news of Jesus is best communicated in the context of relationships, across dinner tables, or in the homes of the people who worship together.  These relationships are difficult to begin and sustain in the context of a once-a-week, large-group gathering.  Sure we come together to worship and learn, but community and real connection necessitate a further step.

Enter micro-groups.

What is a micro-group?  I’m glad you asked.  A micro-group is simply a group of 2-3 people, meeting for about an hour each week, who desire the growth and connection that comes from cracking open the Bible together, asking questions about what is read, and discussing how the scriptures become relevant in our lives.  Through these groups, our hope is that we not only extract truth from the Bible, but are getting the truth of the Bible ingrained in us.  We truly believe the connection of faith and real-life application is the avenue by which we learn to share and show the love of Jesus in better ways.

So, now that you know what a micro-group is, you might be wondering why we value them so much.  Simply put:  micro-groups give a unique opportunity for relationships to begin and grow, they put a value on the Biblical truth that every person is invited into the mission of God, are incredibly flexible, and are highly reproducible.  After being a part of a micro-group, our hope is that every person would feel equipped to begin one of their own.  In this way, the community begins to develop out of dynamic, real, deep relationships.
